Wisconsin THC Drink Ban: What It Means

We’re usually here to bring the good vibes but today, we need to share an update about the future of your favorite THC drinks and edibles.

The federal hemp restrictions affecting Wisconsin THC beverages and edibles have been delayed until December 11, 2026. That gives us a little more time, but the extension has not removed the restrictions.  Unless the law changes, we will no longer be able to sell our current Sensi THC beverages and edibles beginning December 11.

We’re heartbroken about what that means for our small business, the local stores that carry Sensi, and everyone who has made us part of their routine. Here’s what’s happening and how you can support the businesses you love while access remains.

What is the THC drink ban?

What people are calling the “THC drink ban” is a federal change to which products qualify as hemp. It affects much more than drinks: hemp-derived THC gummies and other edibles are also affected.

One key restriction excludes finished hemp products with more than 0.4 milligrams per container of combined total THC and certain other cannabinoids with similar effects. That is a container limit, not a serving limit. For perspective, even a Sensi can containing 2.5mg THC exceeds that threshold. This affects our lower-dose options and even our CBD options!

Was the hemp ban extended?

Yes. A funding law signed on September 2 of this year moved most of the upcoming restrictions from November 12 to December 11, 2026. Certain restrictions on cannabinoids that cannot occur naturally in cannabis remain on the November timeline.

So, what does “naturally occurring” actually mean? Cannabinoids are compounds found in the cannabis plant, which includes hemp. Delta-9 THC, the THC in Sensi, is one of those naturally occurring compounds. That’s different from cannabinoids created through chemical processes that the plant does not produce on its own. At Sensi, using only naturally occurring cannabinoids is an important part of our mission!

Unfortunately, the upcoming restrictions don’t stop at cannabinoids that aren’t found in nature. The new per-container THC limit also affects products containing naturally occurring, hemp-derived THC which includes all of our current Sensi beverages and edibles.

The extension gives us a little more time. It does not give our products a permanent exception. Unless the law changes, December 11 remains the deadline we’re preparing for.

What does this mean for Wisconsin THC drinks and edibles?

This is a federal change affecting Wisconsin, rather than a separate Wisconsin-only ban. Its impact reaches across the businesses that make, distribute, and stock hemp-derived THC products.

Here at Sensi, that feels close to home. Behind every can and every package is a small business we’ve worked hard to build, along with the local retailers who have helped us grow. Your neighborhood shop or grocery store could lose products its customers come back for. A local business could lose an important part of its livelihood. And you could lose access to something you’ve chosen as part of your everyday life.

More than a buzz: why this matters to our community

“All buzz, no booze” has always been about being able to offer our community an alcohol alternative for every occasion. Maybe you reach for Sensi at a backyard hang because you’re skipping alcohol. Maybe it’s your evening wind-down, or your way to join the toast without pouring a cocktail. Having that choice matters.

We also recognize that some adults turn to hemp products rather than traditional medicine when seeking help with sleep, anxiety, joint pain, and many other ailments. Those personal reasons for choosing hemp deserve to be part of the conversation about access.

For us, the hardest part is knowing this change reaches beyond our business. It affects people, their routines, and the choices available to them.
